The other night, I fell asleep in my chair...I guess it was a very deep sleep...I remember waking to my choking, but i could not lift my head in order to breath. Has this ever happen to any of you? I have never experienced the sensation of being paralyzed before. It was quite scary.

Re: Destrubing Sleep

I did have a few choking spells since my surgery - there was a lot of muscle trauma in the procedure and my throat muscles occasionally spasm. I wake up feeling like I am choking bit and it took a lot longer than normal to actually snap out of it - like it was stuck. For me, I think the spasm prevented me from unclenching my throat until I relaxed.
Also, a few time in the past where I ate something that upset my stomach, fell asleep without my BiPap and also on my stomach, I have woken up with reflux having been breathed in through the wrong tube - I was chocking and burning and unable to breath freely for a bit - scary. I got a small taste of how it is that people OD and drown in their own vomit.
Not sure if any of this is similar to what happened to you. I'd inquire to your doc about it.
