I did have a few choking spells since my surgery - there was a lot of muscle trauma in the procedure and my throat muscles occasionally spasm.  I wake up feeling like I am choking bit and it took a lot longer than normal to actually snap out of it - like it was stuck.  For me, I think the spasm prevented me from unclenching my throat until I relaxed.&#xD;
&#xD;
Also, a few time in the past where I ate something that upset my stomach, fell asleep without my BiPap and also on my stomach, I have woken up with reflux having been breathed in through the wrong tube - I was chocking and burning and unable to breath freely for a bit - scary.  I got a small taste of how it is that people OD and drown in their own vomit. &#xD;
&#xD;
Not sure if any of this is similar to what happened to you.  I'd inquire to your doc about it.  &#xD;

    <summary type="html">The other night, I fell asleep in my chair...I guess it was a very deep sleep...I remember waking to my choking, but i could not lift my head in order to breath. Has this ever happen to any of you? I have never experienced the sensation of being paralyzed before. It was quite scary.</summary>
