I finally did it! I got POWER! Got your attention, didn't I????
Since my OSA diagnosis in June 2006, I've been fortunate enough to have a friend within my medieval re-enactment group who co-owned a portable generator with his father. He'd be able to borrow it for the events we were both attending and if he didn't have it, there was power available that I could plug my battery charger into to recharge my Lifeline battery. That is, until this upcoming medieval camping event August 7-10, 2008. He was not able to borrow the generator and the site for the event, while I'm told is very lovely and has tall trees, is totally unimproved and has NO electrical power for medical equipment, or any equipment. I was going to rent a portable generator for the 4 days but it was such a hassle and the cost was at least $130.00. A member of my group found a portable generator she thought would meet my needs and sent me the info online. I ordered it and it should be here tomorrow! My hubby will help me figure out how to use it and now I will not be at the mercy of someone else's generator availability. For $182.00 I've bought my own!
I'll let you know how it works out when I get back from Highland's War.
Love,
Leah

Re: Electricity!!!!
Wed, July 30, 2008 - 1:18 AMHoly cow, Leah, that must be a huge relief! I wonder if you could use your car battery to recharge? Might also be worth looking into in the event that the generator isn't what you need or perhaps another enthusiast has similar issues.
Since I lost my job, and therefore benefits, I have one more night of authorized BiPAP use. Don't know what I will do without it or instead of it. I also take various medications, so they are actually more critical even than the BiPAP. Great life, eh? Trying not to freak out and doing fairly well, but still is a HUGE worry.
Moocho smoocho.

I am sorry...with the loss of your benefits....you lose your bipap....is that legal?
Nothing suprises me anymore...but that seems really fck'ed up.
Who was your provider?

Re: Electricity!!!!
Wed, July 30, 2008 - 8:49 AMI know Pennsic has a place where you can recharge medical batteries for just this kind of case. In a pinch, I'd email the event Autocrat and see if there's a Chiurgeon Point or similar where you can do the recharge. -

Re: Electricity!!!!
Wed, July 30, 2008 - 11:14 AMHighland's War is the only event this year where the site is totally primitive. Chiurgeon Point may have generators, that's true, but frankly, the ability to recharge my battery right within my own camp instead of hauling it somewhere is HUGE.
When I go to Southern Crusades, I am able to use the Hospitality building to recharge my battery and I am able to use Chiurgeon Point to recharge at Estrella War. However, our past Estrella War was a wet and soggy one and we were camped near Troll and Chiurgeon was "on the other side of the world" so-to-speak. It was impossible to get from point A to point B so I was thankful for my friend's generator.
I hope this generator I've purchased (and should come today, yeah!) will work for me because from now on I want to know I've got my medical needs covered by myself. I will be much more at ease knowing that I can attend any event I want because I have the necessary equipment I need. My household has been SO generous this past 18 months, making sure I could get the electricity I needed so I could attend events. I'm part of this "family" for the long-haul and it's time I make sure I can provide for all my needs. It's really important to me but really hard to explain or put into words.

Re: Electricity!!!!
Thu, July 31, 2008 - 11:51 AMThe generator arrived yesterday.
Last night Stanley went to go plug in the charger that came with the generator.
The plug disconnected off the generator and came off into his hands!
He opened up the faceplate and reconnected the plug.
He'll test it for me this weekend and make sure it'll actually work and recharge my battery.
I guess that's the difference between the generator I really wanted that cost $800.00 and the one I could afford that cost $182.00.

Re: Electricity!!!!
Mon, August 11, 2008 - 10:12 AMI have returned from the wilds of Highland's War.
While relatively loud, but not as loud as I really thought it would be, the generator did it's thing and recharged my battery for my CPAP. I was able to use my CPAP throughout the entire 4-day war. Yeah.
My generator has survived it's first war and has summarily been christened with the moniker "The Beast". Trust me! It roars, LOL!
Huzzah.
