  • David!!! I hardly know you!!!

Just kidding. I was just thinking that this will be THE pick-up line for a OSA convention: "Hey, baby, what's your pressure?" (You know, istead of "What's your sign?")

Ok, so we all know who hasn't had enough coffee this morning...or enough weekend.

    I use a Bi-PAP, and I am at either 12/16 or 16/12 - I forget which. I think it's 12/16.

I just started on a bi-level machine four nights ago. The MDs had originally Rx'd 19 in and 14 out; I balked at that because my bi-level overnight study did not go well. So, they've Rx'd me to start at 12/12 (as if it were a CPAP machine) and see how things develop. Like Leah, i use the machine's ramp feature to start at 6 and get settled in.

I am CPAP at 12. Some people think that is high... and no ramp- I feel like i am suffocating with the ramp. so, no ramp anymore.

Let me know how the BiPAP is and what feels different compared to a CPAP?

and my mask leeks, I end up holding it to my nose as night.
    • I've been thinking of taking the ramp off too. I feel like I'm "not getting air" at the ramp speed of 6. BTW, a regular CPAP usually has a top setting of 20 so you're at only 60% of peak setting. I'm at 50% with a setting of 10. So if you look at it that way, your setting is not considered high. I would consider a setting of 16 or more to be on the higher end. But then, that's just my personal opinion.

Sometimes my mask leaks too and I find it frustrating even though I have a GREAT mask that usually works very well. I think sometimes my sleep position may justle the mask more than others.
      • I stopped using the ramp quite awhile ago, simply because I didn't need it. What I do is turn on the machine before I put the mask on and let the airflow begin - otherwise it's like getting blasted out of bed.

Also, with the mask leakage, I find that usually happens around my eyes (of all places) and that if I pull the mask down toward my chin, it snugs up pretty well. I hate having those little air blasts directly into my eyes (My eyes! My eyes!). Also, I don't know how long those mask gaskets work - anyone have any idea?

        Argh!
  • I believe I am at 7 on a CPAP. I need to boil my mask and form it to my face. I always forget to do it til I am falling asleep and it starts to leak. Okay I am off to do it while I think of it.

    Talk to ya later
