Yes, wanna hear all about it, mc!!!

I'm getting ready for some outpatient surgery on Monday. Went for the preop crap today. I do not want to be under general anesthesia because I have experienced "anesthesia awareness" twice in my life (separated by two decades) while under. I told my doc and she was fine with doing the procedure (female stuff) under local. NOW, though, since she knows about my OSA, she is not sure that the anesthesiologist will do it under a local. That might be a deal breaker, but hard to say. I am not a real happy camper, but oh well, what can one do?

Anyone with experience of that? (BTW, anesthesia awareness is when you wake up DURING surgery. You can feel all the pain but can't move because you have been given a paralytic - so you feel the pain and can't tell anyone - this is why not doing it under local might be a deal breaker...)

        BBL.

        D.

P.S. Heron, you sound like you have been having a nightmare - awake OR asleep!

          So...
I am working for a Korean-American Adventist Church in Orange County. There as so many things wrong with that statement for me.
          But...
My boss is a friend - and the people are cool. The church is a bit stuffy for me but not total torture. I am a worship, arts and teaching pastor. That means I get to handle all the busy work surrounding the service, try and bring creativity to our church culture, and corrupt young minds with a more progressive take on religion. And I get paid.

But I miss the folks at the church I recently left. What Christian churches do you know of where I can be open about my apnea, cannabis use, religious pluralism, respect for atheism, and vocal critique about the state of Christianity and be loved for it. They would have really got a kick out of a nun with a shotgun and some of my favorite people were very open to wiccan and buddhist perspectives. It was a fun party!

But I am giving it my best. ;)
          Peace!

Whoa, mc, you have your hands full! I have a very good friend who is in the Adventist community and she is a lovely person, but we don't talk religion per se...we talk about it within the context of our lives. She is from El Salvador, and when her brother was murdered (drug related) I went to his funeral - it was all in Spanish and was pretty out there for me (I don't speak Spanish, btw).

I identify as a Roman Catholic, but I am not sure that the RC Church would identify me that way! My beliefs are way outside the lines - that's just the worship community I feel comfortable in and have lived most of my life in. I just believe that God is waaaay too big for any one church. That makes it kind of difficult for me now working in a Catholic high school - I have a picture of a very punked-out pierced goth right out of hell guy on my door with a caption that says "Dare to be different." Don't think I haven't caught crap for that - the thing is, they haven't made me take it down, though I KNOW it annoys some people.

Anyhow, mc, good luck with your new gig. Let us know how it goes. I am very interested in the "meeting" of ideologies and how that all works out.

Do the good work, my brother!!!

Sorry to hear about your flu, Heron. One of those a year is more than enough for me.

It's quietER these nights, because I'm in the guest bedroom so that SWMBO can get some rest. The whooshing keeps her awake, never mind the loud bursts of air when I "take a leak" from all sides of the mask. "We are not amused...."

Going for a 12' hose to try and get some distance between her and the black box. If that doesn't work, I'm gonna build a plywood box with mega acoustic dampening inside and fit it overtop.

Went back for another mask fitting; they wanted me to try the Hybrid Universal Interface (sounds like a bit of the Borg from STNG): www.cpapman.com/ffmasks.html (scroll down to the second listing). While that model makes for less wear-and-tear on the ol' hooter, it leaks more than the Fisher-Paykal I started with or the Resmed I have now.

Though I know having a mask that doesn't fit quite right is NOT a laughing matter, I started cracking up at your comment about "taking a leak" from your mask. Depending on how I'm sleeping, mine takes a leak too and that's what wakes up my husband! Apparently, when my mask leaks, I start snoring again and he knows I don't snore when my mask & machine are well in sync. So, while I'm peacefully sleeping, he'll reach over and bump me on the arm to wake me from my blissful slumber to tell me "You're leaking, fix your mask!" The "Darth Vader" affect of the machine whoosing doesn't seem to bother him because he's commented that if he could sleep through my "surreal snoring that could wake the dead", a little breathing machine making whooshing sounds didn't phase him in the slightest.

Gotta tell ya, that's true love, folks because we all know our bedtime attire is anything but glamorous!

Pun intended, Leah. Though I must say that one benefit, so far, to the whole mask-and-hose fashion statement is reduced nocturnal trips to the loo. I've cheated a couple of nights, and right away, I'm doing three or four trips (drips?); back on "ol' Windy," it's immediately down to one or none.
