Does anyone have experience with leg and/or foot pain and cramping when trying to get to sleep?
I don't know if what I'm experiencing is what doctors call "Restless Legs Syndrome". About 3 nights a week I get some of the most horrible cramping of the muscles in my calves or feet while trying to fall asleep. If I've been especially active during that day and on my feet alot, that night is HORRIBLE when it comes to trying to fall asleep. I'll get cozy, my CPAP humming, and then the legs or feet start cramping and hurting and I can't move or straighten them to "undo" the cramp; its agony! It doesn't happen every night, but often enough to be a bother. I know there is a prescription drug for "restless legs" but frankly I'm "drugged out". I take enough perscription meds as it is for my allergies, asthma, etc. I don't want another "drug".
Are leg & foot problems while trying to sleep common for OSA patients? Anyone found a way to cope with it? Some days are much better than others and some days the cramping doesn't happen at all. But on the days it does...HELP!

Re: Leg Pain and/or "Restless Legs"
Mon, March 12, 2007 - 12:15 PMLeah..do you have Fibromyalgia?
I have lots of pain in my feet and legs...tons..in fact..and butt too..
restless legs..feels like...something crawling under your skin..and than your leg jumps..
i have that too and in my shoulders and arms
you could try taking some extra potassium...
and have your iron level taken..my doc said..sometimes..restless legs...is iron deficiency..mine is a lil low..but not significantly
youcould also try taking a hot bath before you go to bed...
iF MY legs are working up..I get up and go an take a hot bath..and that relaxes the muscles enough for me to get to sleep..
hope this helps ya.. huggs... "heron~

Re: Leg Pain and/or "Restless Legs"
Mon, March 12, 2007 - 12:57 PMThank you for your inquiry about fibro. No, I don't have it. I may be low on potassium though because I have been before. I'm starting to take a daily multi-vitamin and I think it'll help. I'm SO bad at taking meds, whether supplements or prescriptions. I hate "popping pills" even though I know I need to. Truth be told (shhhhhh!) I sometimes skip some of the meds, especially if I'm just overtired. I know that's a bad thing and I'm trying to take my meds every day, at least my prescribed ones.
In order for me to take a nice long soak in a tub my whole bathroom would have to be remodeled! A shower's the best I can do. But a long soak does sound heavenly.
Some chamomile tea wouldn't hurt. Doubtful it would help the legs, but it would help calm a stressful day.
