I have been doing some reading..I am not sure if I posted this here before but I think it's important enough to let everyone know what they have found about this.
High fructose corn syrup which is added into beverages, ketchup, cereals, BBQ sauce, some yogurt, Fat Free salad dressings etc has been found to seriously mess with appetite hormones and insulin resistance. Also, in rats it was found to raise cholesterol levels.
Even Weight Watchers treats have HFCS in some of them. I found that if it says Organic, it cannot contain HFCS so that's what I am buying now. And Fat Free unflavored (Plain) yogurt is best and then add in whatever you want. The low fat has HFCS in it.
There are studies by the Amer Journal of Clinical Nutrition..
here's a link to one of them

There's a movement to get this out of foods, just as they are getting transfats out of foods. I hope they suceed. In the meantime we can take care of ourselves and our kids.

Fri, July 4, 2008 - 6:58 PMMy wife and I have been off the HFCS for quite sometime. She really like Dr. Oz from Oprah. We have all his books and we try to follow his lifestyle plan, but it has in some cases conflicted with the plan that the Mayo Clinic has set up for me. -

Re: Obesity and HIgh Fructose Corn Syrup
Sun, July 6, 2008 - 9:10 AMThat's great you both are off of it. I am such a slow learner. I just found out about it a few months ago from a store clerk at Safeway. I was shopping for my Weight Watchers Core program foods...I had just started . I told her that I am never full. That I can eat and eat and eat..and get full of one food but still crave a different kind. Full of chocolate, now I need chips, now I need fruit, now jelly beans, now meat..now back to chocolate. I was never satisfied. That my 'full' button was broken.
That's when she said she suspected it could be related to HFCS. I listened skeptically but I will be darned if it didn't help. I get full now. I feel like I have been walking around medicated for two years and I finally woke up.
It certainly something to be aware of, I think.
