So about a month ago I saw a commercial for product called Pure Sleep. It's a mouthpiece one wears at night to push the lower jaw slightly forward with the intent of eliminating snoring. I've been using it for about a week now with pretty good results (and not using the cpap).
A few observations:
1. It's a little on the thick side (because the front of it has opening) which makes it hard to keep my mouth shut during the night, so I wake up with a dry mouth.
2. I have a crooked bottom front tooth and the mouthpiece puts some pressure on it, making it kind of sore in the morning.
But other than that, for $60ish it seems to work! My partner says that I don't snore using it, and I feel fine in the mornings. I'm happy to have another option besides the cpap now- especially when traveling.
Is anyone else using this product?

Re: Pure Sleep product- I'm using it
Sun, May 18, 2008 - 11:32 PMThat is awesome! Thinking about trying it out. Did you go to a dentist to get it fitted?
Thanks for sharing the great news!

Re: Pure Sleep product- I'm using it
Mon, May 19, 2008 - 9:47 AMI've seen the commercials for Pure Sleep and though I have NOT tried it, according to the commercial I believe you place the unit into boiling water, let it cool a bit and then put it in your mouth to mold to a custom fit.
When I saw the commercial for the first time I was quite skeptical that the product would even be slightly effective for treating OSA. I'm glad it has. Unfortunately, I'm not a good candidate for getting one as I already wear a custom made TMJ guard in my mouth at night PLUS my CPAP mask -- as if having OSA wasn't enough, I've got severe TMJ too. LOL I've got to admit, Pure Sleep would have been a nice alternative to lugging all my battery back-up equipment and CPAP to all my medieval camping events! Alas, tis not to be for me.

Mon, May 19, 2008 - 11:02 AMNo fitting at dentist. Like Leah said, you put it in hot water to soften the piece, then bite down.
The number on the commercial is an automated system that asks you a number of questions about your medical history, and it does say it is not recommended for folks with TMJ.
